Levi Bailey and Maddie LaRue-Barton
How long have you been dating?
Maddie: Two months?
Levi: Yeah.
Describe when you realized you were interested in the other person.
Maddie: I invited him to a concert. And we were like, we got there six hours early.
Levi: Yes, we did. … There were two college girls in line that we made very good friends with.
Maddie: I left for a little bit.
Levi: You left to get something, and [the college girls] were just like, “Are you guys dating? Like, what’s going on with y’all?” And at the time, we were very good friends. Then Maddie came back and I told her and we had a laugh about it.
What concert was it?
Maddie: 5Seconds of Summer.
Did either of you do anything embarrassing when you like the other?
Maddie: I spent hours planning with our friend group and plotting.
Levi: They had an infamous group chat that was talked about.
Maddie: We did.
Levi: They had spies.
Maddie: All of them were working against him and for me.
Levi, when did you realize this was happening?
Levi: Oh, very early on. To be honest, the spies weren’t very good spies. They were pretty bad spies, actually.
What do you admire about your partner?
Levi: So many things…
Maddie: He’s very smart, and I don’t like stupid people. And he’s very kind. I very much am a man-hater. And he’s made it very hard to hate men. He’s just very sweet. And does a lot of things to go out of his way to make me happy. One time, I ran out of baking supplies. And so late at night, he drove over to give me eggs and brown sugar.
Levi: She is basically my very own Disney princess because she has a beautiful singing voice and she has very beautiful eyes, they’re very big. She’s very cute. She’s very kind and she’s very sweet. And she bakes for me. … She bakes very good things. One of my favorites, I think, were the apple turnovers.
Explain what makes your relationship “work”
Maddie: I think we’re both super busy and so we understand … that we can never see each other and it’s okay.
How do you work around that?
Levi: Just lots of little time. We always walk to school together. And we spend time at lunch.
Tell me a funny story about your partner
Maddie: On our first official date, … we stumbled across an Italian festival. And so we went through all these booths and other Italian things. Then we went to the International Fountain. He kept running into the fountain and trying to drag me in.
Levi: I didn’t get soaking wet. I’m very good at running through fountains. I do it frequently, actually. … I’d say I run through fountains more than the average person does. … And I don’t get very damp, I’m pretty good at it.
Is there anything else you want to share?
Levi: I really, really like her.
