Hannah Elaimy Wins Student Athlete of the Week

Roosevelt’s very own Hannah Elaimy has been announced as week six CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Partnered with the Seahawks, CenturyLink Field selects one nominated student athlete to be named Student Athlete of the Week every week for 10 weeks. The student must display a strong sense of leadership and dedication in both athletics and character. For Mr. Rose, the choice to nominate Elaimy was clear. “The Seahawks award is only for a person who is a great athlete, does very well in school, and is also helpful in the community. So that’s Hannah, it was an easy choice.”

Elaimy’s connection with golf has been strong for as long as she can remember. She started at the age of three years old, courtesy of her father who works in the industry.“I like the challenge of the sport. I like how there is always something to improve at,” said Elaimy. Her athletic achievements include being captain of the girl’s golf team, a responsibility she takes very seriously. In addition she has also placed in the top 10 in the Washington State Junior Golf Association Tournament for two years in a row. Her most recent accomplishment was being named Metro player of the year.

Apart from Elaimy’s athletic performance, her involvement in the community was a large factor of her nomination. “She has done so many amazing things that it [the nomination] literally just wrote itself,” said Mr. Rose.Elaimy is involved in a number of activities, including the Roosevelt Suicide Prevention Team, which aims to spread awareness about suicide while diminishing the stigma around it. Elaimy is also a counselor at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference, where she teaches leadership skills, and regularly attends the LPGA/USGA Girls golf camp in which she strives to empower other girls. And if that isn’t impressive enough, on top of it all she has been able to balance schoolwork, earning herself a 4.0 GPA.

As part of the award, Elaimy won a $1,000 grant that went directly to the golf team. She was also recognized for her achievements during the Seahawks vs Buccaneers game on November 3, and was even given a custom football and jersey. In regards to winning the award Elaimy said, “I was shocked but super humbled at the same time. It was an honor to win.” Players like Hannah Elaimy can be seen as examples for other athletes. They show that being an athlete is a job that takes place both on the field, and off it.
