Seattle gets a brief reprieve from the grimy, cold winters with the arrival of the holiday light displays. Houses all around town are dressed with vibrant webs of festive bulbs. Nearby Roosevelt, there’s even a neighborhood renowned for it: Candy Cane Lane. This year, photographer Nathan Smith has gathered some of the city’s most sublime displays and will be deciding which are lit and which are sh-…not great.
The best tree I found on my light escapade. The execution on the branch-wrapping is very impressive. 9/10
Following the classic design path of “no colors”, this design encapsulates what the holidays really mean to many people. 8.5/10
A glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak area, this spruce-up to a leafless tree was a very creative twist. 6/10
At first glance, this house is not too exciting, though the twist of an inflatable santa really spiced things up. 5.5/10
On the roof, the fence, and even in the yard: lights. This house was decked the halls out. A very impressive display and one I will be certain to meander by again before the holidays conclude. 9.5/10
This house has a dominant corner of the block and they wasted no space. Stringing up lights of all colors amongst their diverse plant life, this was a particularly impressive display. 9.5/10
This house, rather than relying on mass quantities of lights, chose rather to explore the tactic of glowing as they strategically positioned lights against large, white walls. 7/10
This house tossed up some lasers on their house. Very innovative; very fun. 7/10
This house was impressive, primarily because of the overall spread of lights. While the design was not ground-breaking, the wide application gave dazzling views from all angles. 8/10
