On Saturday, February 8th, the ladies of Rider varsity gymnastics (coached by Bettie Kibala) awed the audience in the KingCo 4A Championships at Woodinville High School. With sharp backflips and lightning-fast vaults, the team impressed the judges and took home eighth place out of eleven teams.

Gathered in the gymnasium for the first round were the Roughriders, Eastlake, Garfield, Inglemoor, Redmond, and Skyline. Woodinville High School, whose gymnasts took part in the second round of the meet, have had a record breaking year, earning scores close to those of many NCAA Division II colleges and universities.

Junior Camille Jonlin, who competed in both beam and uneven bars at the meet, excitedly said of the team’s placement: “Our team total was 151 points and our goal was 150, so it was a good meet for us.”

If you are interested in supporting the team, the district meet will be held at Mt. Si High School on February 15th at 5:00pm. Three Riders will compete in individual events: Claire Schwartz on vault, Qingyu Onouye on vault, and Rose Kibala on beam, uneven bars, and floor.
