The Roosevelt Theatre Department is home to many talented performers but the senior showcase is made up of two shows where only seniors perform and show off their hard work. This year, the senior showcase shows were announced as “Anne of Green Gables” and “Tom Sawyer.” The shows will take place in the Black Box Theater and there will only be three performances of each show so grab your tickets as soon as you can!
As we all know, members of the Roosevelt Theatre Department are some of the hardest working students in the school. Every show put on is always a hit but does take a lot of hard work. This showcase features students in the top drama class, with those who have been in the program for a long time being cast in both plays. Jacob “Santa” Welsh, stage manager and set designer, has been working extremely hard to make sure these shows take off.
“I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into this whole thing,” Santa says that, “There has been quite an intensive rehearsal process” which only reiterates the fact that these theatre students work very hard to put on fantastic shows. Santa will be running both “Anne of Green Gables” and “Tom Sawyer” from the booth and is very excited for both opening nights.
Senior Annabelle Hannan will be acting in “Anne of Green Gables” and will be playing Anne’s guardian, Marilla Cuthbert. She said that the seniors only had about four weeks to put the plays together and that “it’s a little bit nerve wracking because usually shows take a little bit longer to pull together but I’m hopeful that we are going to be able to put together a good show.” Hannan says it has been a lot of work and that her play production class, the class that is putting on these shows, is a “lot of in-class blocking and deadlines to meet.” Although it has taken work and dedication, Hannan says she is looking forward to the plays.
“Tom Sawyer” and “Anne of Green Gables” are sure to be amazing shows so get your tickets before they sell out! Seating is limited.
