Students Walk Out to Protest Gun Violence

Exactly one month after the devastating school shooting in Parkland, FL at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School which rocked the nation, thousands of students across the country participated in a student-lead walkout against gun violence. At Roosevelt High School, the organization of a walkout to take place March 14th was already underway when one of our own students was shot at a party over the weekend preceding the march. The majority of students chose to leave classes at 10 am on Wednesday to participate in the march to the University of Washington’s Red Square to hold a rally which included speeches and the presence of government officials like Seattle’s Mayor Jenny Durkan. The march was extremely successful among Roosevelt Students and included Seattle Public School students from other schools as well. Students toted signs with powerful messages like, “arms are for hugging,” united under a common theme of ending gun violence and calling upon government officials to tighten regulations on gun ownership. The march received immense coverage from both local and national media outlets, a sign that the message was a powerful one and would be heard loud and clear across the nation. Below is a gallery of photos from the march.
