Members of the armed forces here in America risk their lives every day to keep us safe, but what do they receive in return? Although some veterans aren’t eligible for or never see benefits from their dangerous and demanding jobs, there are many ways that veterans and their families can benefit from serving our country.
Before Vets can receive benefits from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), they must file a claim. A claim is when a veteran submits a form to the VA explaining the injuries and/or mental health disorders they ended up with after their service in order to get benefits or compensation for them. Vets can get disability compensations that can help take care of their families and assist them in regaining their independence. Education and job training for Veterans can be covered if they meet the requirements. The VA can cover dental, vision care, mental health care, and assisted living for those who may need it. Life insurance is something the VA is well-versed in; they offer many different types of life insurance to Veterans and their families. A pension is also offered to give Vets and their families more financial security after returning to their civilian lives. Even after a Veteran family member passes away, family members can still receive benefits. Memorial benefits can take pressure off Veterans and their families with burial plans.
Sadly, even if claims are made, not every Veteran will receive what help they need. For the people who do receive benefits like these, they can take immense pressure off surviving members of our military and their families.
