The Roosevelt News receives national scholastic journalistic recognition.
The Roosevelt News was awarded the honor of “First Class” publication by the National Student Press Association for the 2021-22 school year.
The NSPA provides student press organizations a national rating through its critique service. Publications are ranked by the NSPA on a scale from “Third Class” to “All American,” the highest distinction. TRN received an overall score of 455/500.
Publications are assessed in four categories: Coverage & Content, Text, Visuals, and Presentation — reviewing its website and all print issues. Publications may earn up to 10 additional points through their social media and online presence.
In addition, publications earn Marks of Distinction when they excel in certain categories. A publication is distinguished as “All American” when it receives four out of five possible Marks of Distinction.
For the 2021-22 school year, TRN received an Annotated Critique from the NSPA, providing detailed feedback on its individual strengths and challenges.
The TRN Editorial Board aims to implement the NSPA’s recommendations and feedback for the 2022-23 school year to improve as a publication in professionalism, assessability, and appeal to the Roosevelt High School community.
