With the winter season approaching, snow is falling, and likewise, people are falling in love. The Roosevelt News spoke with senior couple Eloise Sax and Nicole Jewett to see what the future holds.
How did you two meet each other?
Eloise: “Ms. Plesha’s language arts class back in freshman year […] and we were really close friends in freshman year. And then in sophomore year we were like ‘Hey, wait a second, wait a second.’”
While neither remembers the exact moment they first liked each other as more than friends, the realization was only the start of something beautiful.
You guys have dated through quarantine, what was your experience like?
Eloise: “Mostly just texting each other, and it would either literally be like absolute silence for a month, or just be like a seriously long conversation. I remember I sent you so many voice messages and lore about video games.”
Nicole laughs, “Yeah it would be like one really long conversation at like 2 a.m. at night, and then it would be a dry desert…”
Eloise: “Sporadic communication, but we made it work because I would literally just send you memes in the middle of the night and you would be like ‘haha’… communication succeeded.”
What is the best date you’ve taken each other on?
Eloise: “The museum date was really nice. We actually went to the Van Gogh exhibit on Sunday.”
Do you have any holiday plans together?
Eloise: “You know what would be so cool, doing Winterfest in Seattle Center, because they’ve got that really cute little ice rink.”
Nicole: “I really do want to go ice skating with you, that’s another thing I want to do with you.”
Eloise: “I started taking figure skating lessons…”
Nicole: “Yeah now you can help me skate because I kind of suck.”
Eloise: “That would be so cute! Like an ice skating date … and I’m just carrying the both of us.”
Do you plan to go to university together?
Nicole: “We’re not going to the same college. But we are planning, like I am applying to a bunch of colleges on the East Coast.”
Eloise: “Yeah, and I’m also applying to some on the East Coast, and you really like Chicago. That would be a lot of a train trip. However, if you go to that one school in Pennsylvania and then I go to my dream college in Massachusetts, we can meet up together in New York and just hang out. New York will not be ready for us,” she laughs.
What was your favorite memory together?
Nicole: “OK, I remember having sleepovers with you, and I really liked those because we got to have really deep conversations.”
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Nicole: “I think the one thing I like about you is how good you are, and I feel like, you’re just a good person and I feel like I cannot match up to that, but also that is something I just really admire about you.”
Eloise: “Oh, we are getting vulnerable here in the Roosevelt newsroom tonight!”
Nicole: “But also that’s just something I really love about you, and, like, what is really attractive.
Eloise: “I appreciate that … I really like your humor, for starters, and like, I think our personalities really go well together. But also, like, we have really good chemistry. And you’re also always there if you need to talk about anything, and you’re very loving and very generous. I mean, you buy me so much stuff.”
